Alberta First Nation invokes treaty clause to set up gender-affirming care safe haven

Saddle Lake First Nation has invoked a 150-year-old treaty clause to establish a “safe haven” for gender-affirming care on its reserve lands. The First Nation says the move will allow medical staff to provide protected and uninterrupted care to transgender and Two-Spirit youth.
